The so-called Loyalist feud is reaping a terrible toll upon working-class Unionist areas.
This murderous dispute, which to all intents and purposes seems to be about extending community control and enhancing the private criminal empires of the people at the top of these warring paramilitary organisations, has already claimed the lives of four people.
In my own area of Laganbank, Michael Green, a 42-year old man with three children was gunned down as he arrived for work at Gilpins furniture shop.
This feud is not only claiming lives, it is also having a devastating effect upon the communities in which these paramilitaries operate.
My party colleague Edwin Poots was entirely correct when he said "the ongoing feud within elements of Loyalism is causing huge damage and demoralising the unionist community."
For decades Republicans have attacked and killed thousands of Protestants but today there is a clear reality that Protestants could be attacked by so-called Loyalists as well as Republicans.
The murder of four Protestants, by these so-called Loyalists, has caused dismay and has totally demoralised the Protestant community.
These people who are perpetrating misery upon the Protestant community are in fact carrying out the work of the IRA. Why does the IRA need to continue their campaign of terrorism when so-called Loyalists will do the job for them?
The current campaign is not about defending Ulster it has more to do with protection money, extortion and drug dealing.
It is clear that this sordid affair needs to be brought to a swift and immediate end. This can only be achieved by a tough security response and a zero-tolerance attitude on the part of government.
The concept of "internal housekeeping" which was left to us by one erstwhile Secretary of State needs once and for all to be abandoned.
Paramilitary organisations should not be allowed to simply go around killing people, taking over housing estates and engaging in criminality for as long as they abstain from killing members of the security forces or innocent civilians (it should be placed on record that the families of all four people killed in this feud have said their loved ones had no paramilitary connections whatsoever).
The PSNI must be allowed to hunt paramilitaries down and prosecute them for their behaviour.
At present, many people believe they are being prevented from doing so at the behest of political masters with their own agenda. The policy of trying to molly-coddle the murderers and thugs on both sides of the divide has demonstrably failed.
They continue to commit the crime, it's time they received their punishment.
