'Search torture house for DNA of Scappaticci'

(Chris Anderson, The People)

A victims campaigner has called on cops on both sides of the border to seal off three houses and test for the DNA of double agent Stakeknife. Willie Frazer of Families Acting for Innocent Relatives believes the properties were all used by Freddie Scappaticci and his feared Provo 'Nutting Squad' during the Troubles.

Yesterday, FAIR said it had pinpointed two houses close to the village of Omeath, Co Louth where IRA members were taken for interrogation. A number of those interrogated there were later executed and their bodies dumped along the border area. The third house is in the south Armagh area close to its boundary with Co Louth.

It is understood the IRA had also used one of the Omeath houses as a bomb factory. The bombs were later used against targets inside Northern Ireland. Frazer said he was in no doubt that all three houses had been used by the IRA for years.

The outspoken victims worker said reliable sources had supplied detailed information on the houses and the actions of the IRA, which made it clear all three locations, had been used to interrogate dozens of people. Security

Frazer said Nicky O'Hare, a leading republican, had provided one of the Omeath Houses. O'Hare was later shot dead by Republicans in Dundalk's Clanbrassil Street.

"Our sources have said all three locations were used by the IRA's Internal Security Unit," said Frazer.

"They have also identified a number of IRA volunteers who took part in the interrogations. One of them was top Provo John Joe Magee. Another was Freddie Scappaticci, the person now identified as the army agent, Stakeknife."

FAIR's project officer outlined how the IRA abducted any suspect informer. He said the suspect would be told to turn up at a pre-arranged location on the premise that they were about to attend an IRA training camp. Unaware of the fate that lay ahead of them suspects would have then been 'arrested' by the IRA and taken to one of the three interrogation houses along the border.

"The windows of the houses were blacked out. Food for the Internal Security Unit would already be there and access to the houses was controlled by the IRA during the interrogation of a suspect," said Frazer.

"Once an IRA volunteer admitted he was an informer he was executed and his body dumped close to the border."

William Frazer said his sources had told him the IRA's Nutting Squad made Audio recordings of their interrogation procedures. The tapes were handed over to a senior south Armagh republican for analysis on a machine similar to a lie detector. The senior Republican is still active in the Crossmaglen area of south Armagh.

Willie Frazer said he was now calling on the Gardai and PSNI to carry out a detailed examination of all three locations.

"Freddie Scappaticci must also be arrested and questioned about his involvement with the IRA's Internal Security Unit."
