A solicitor for Freddie Scappaticci appeared to implicitly confirm his
client was an agent in a letter handed in to a court this week.
During a bid by Scappaticci to ban a controversial book about him, a letter
sent by lawyer Michael Flanigan to the Crown Solicitor was included in
documentation given to The People before the court case.
The letter reads: "Re: My Client Freddie Scappaticci. I refer to previous
correspondence in this matter. I understand that there are a number of
existing injunctions taken out by your client, the Ministry of Defence
against various parties who have made allegations against Mr Scappaticci.
"I further believe that an injunction was taken out a number of years ago
against The People newspaper prohibiting them from disclosing the identity
of agents.
"Clearly within their own terms The People would appear to have breached
the terms of this injunction and I should be obliged if you would clarify
the current status of the proceedings against that newspaper."
The solicitor then went on to ask the MoD to ban the sale of the book
Stakeknife within 'the United Kingdom including Northern Ireland'.
