Sinn Féin should be sued

(by Suzanne Breen, the News Letter)

Dublin Sinn Féin councillor Martin Christie should consider visiting the Equality Authority. That's the Republic's equivalent of our Equality Commission. It fights acts of discrimination.

Christie has a strong case. He's been suspended by Sinn Féin for his failure to register the sale of a supply of goods at a company where he once worked.

He insists he corrected his mistake immediately, paid the amount back in full, and parted from the firm on good terms. There were no criminal charges.

You can't help feeling Christie was hard done by. The sum involved was €1,700. The Provos make millions every year from fuel smuggling, financial scams, fake CDs and cigarettes, and a whole range of other rackets.

The men at the top, with no explicable income, own luxurious holiday homes. Yet no-one blinks an eyelid, let alone orders an internal investigation. Perhaps the leadership don't like the colour of Christie's eyes or his accent, or maybe he just doesn't look as cute as Mary Lou.

Whatever the reason for his suspension, it ain't what they're telling us. Strange too that no inquiries have been launched into the finances of one Freddie Scappaticci.
