The courage of Trevor George, who refuses to move from his Dunmurry home despite suffering 36 sectarian attacks in the last three years, deserves to be saluted.
Mr George, who is in his 70s, says he has no doubt he has been targeted by loyalists because he is married to a Catholic.
Paint and fireworks have regularly been thrown at his house, while, in the most recent incident, it was struck by two petrol bombs.
Mr George is entitled to expect the full support of politicians and the police in his determined stand.
His home stands on the banks of the River Lagan and almost all the attacks have been launched from an adjacent tow path.
Mr George has suggested that measures should be introduced to close a short section of the tow path after dark.
This is a reasonable request, which should only involve installation of padlocked gates.
If it will help to protect Mr George and his family from sectarian thugs, it should be completed without delay.
