Our sympathy to Moree brethren

(Editorial, Irish News)

It is difficult to understand the mentality of anyone capable of stealing a mechanical digger and ramming it into the wall of an Orange Hall.

The attack, between Cookstown and Dungannon in Co Tyrone, certainly sent out an unmistakable message of bigotry and intolerance.

To make matters worse, the Moree building had only recently re-opened after being extensively damaged in a malicious fire six years ago.

The targeting of Orange halls and indeed GAA clubs has been a disturbingly regular occurrence in a number of districts for some time.

Community relations have traditionally been good in most rural areas and it is essential that this should not be changed by the activities of a tiny handful of twisted individuals.

The vast majority of people on both sides of the religious divide will hope that Moree Orange Hall can be swiftly rebuilt and that those who engage in sectarian aggression are brought to justice.
