Police have urged community leaders to help stamp out further violence following Celtic and Rangers football matches.
Rival gangs of supporters clashed in various parts of Derry on Sunday evening after Celtic failed in their bid to win a third Scottish league title in a row. Celtic's arch rivals Rangers collected the league title after beating Dunfermline.
Both Glasgow clubs have large and passionate fan bases in Northern Ireland and violence has broken out following games involving the two teams on a number of occasions in the past.
On Sunday night, trouble flared almost as soon as the two games ended. Police dispersed rival fans at Bishop Street at 5.30pm and again at Nailer's Row at 5.50pm.
Police were then alerted through CCTV to fresh disturbances at 6.45pm when rival fans clashed at Artillery Street, while a woman complained that her car had been damaged in clashes between fans at Lower Violet Street in the Waterside at 8.30pm.
A police spokesman said officers came under petrol-bomb attack on two separate occasions at Nailor's Row and at Lecky Road at 5.05pm and at 7.10pm. One man was arrested at Strand Road for disorderly behaviour.
Stressing that Sunday night's disturbances involved only a small number of people, Inspector Rodney Flood said police and community leaders had worked hard in recent months to deal with the problem.
Inspector Flood said that there had been four Old Firm games since March following which there had been no trouble.
"It is unfortunate that when it comes to the end of the season this appears," he said.
A police spokesman said that officers had done all they could to ensure the isolated incidents did not get out of hand.
He said that with the help of community leaders further improvements could be made. The spokesman also added that there were small numbers on both sides who were more intent on fighting each other than enjoying the sport.
