Ulster Unionist MP the Rev Martin Smyth has returned to Northern Ireland following a visit to Colombia.
The South Belfast MP went to South America with five other MPs as part of a House of Commons delegation.
As part of his visit, Mr Smyth said he had "informal discussions with various parties" about the three suspected IRA members on trial in Colombia for allegedly training guerillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
"I did have informal discussions with various parties about it but of course I would not want to pre-empt the verdict of that trial," he said.
"The verdict is now expected in December and I will await with interest the judgements on the various charges."
Mr Smyth added that "Colombia undoubtedly has major problems with terrorism".
"The Colombian president informed me that our own prime minister (Tony Blair) had suggested that he make contact with FARC to advise them that they could not win and open talks," he said.
