'Search for bodies a priority'

(Irish News)

The SDLP last night (Wednesday) vowed to continue pressing for the bodies of the Disappeared to be returned to their families.

North Belfast assembly member Alban Maginness said he promised relatives that he would keep searching for the truth behind the abduction and murder by republicans of at least 10 people.

The move came after family members of some of those still missing lashed out at politicians, claiming that their loved ones were no longer a priority in the peace process.

Anna McShane, whose father Charlie Armstrong vanished in south Armagh 23 years ago, accused representatives of ignoring their cause.

"Political parties use us coming up to an election, or whenever it suits them but we are swept under the carpet again as soon as the next issue comes along," she said.

However, Mr Maginness said his party would continue to support the families' campaign.

"The SDLP have always and will continue to press for the return of these bodies to their families so they can begin to find some closure."
