Step forward in support for PSNI

(Editorial, Irish News)

Minor details can sometimes be as telling as major announcements while attitudes towards policing move forward across Northern Ireland.

In the recent past residents of the Poleglass and Twinbrook areas of west Belfast often felt either unable or unwilling to approach the PSNI about a range of issues.

This handed a huge advantage to criminal elements who were able to cause enormous damage to the general image of some neighbourhoods.

As we report today (Thursday), circumstances have changed so rapidly that mobile telephone numbers for police officers are now being widely distributed throughout the district.

Members of the public will have the option of making personal contact with individual officers in a way which already happens elsewhere.

It will then be up to the PSNI to ensure that people in Twinbrook, Poleglass and every other part of Northern Ireland have access to a service which is fully in line with the highest possible standards.
